Can You Actually Wear Heels All Day Without Pain?
Subashini De SilvaI love heels. I love how they finish an outfit and how I feel when I wear them. But as the founder of Subashini Heels, I also believe in being honest about comfort.
I’ve worn my own designs through full workdays without needing to take them off because of pain. That doesn’t mean every woman will have the same experience—or that a comfortable heel is the right shoe for hours of uninterrupted standing.
For me, the choice of shoe and what the day involves both matter.
The sample I secretly wore to work
When I started Subashini Heels, I wanted to bring beauty and comfort together. I’d heard so often that you couldn’t have both.
The first surprise came with Sunset Jewel.
I wore the sample to work without telling anyone it was my design. I wanted to experience it myself and hear people’s reactions without that knowledge influencing them.
I wore it several times, paying attention to how my feet felt throughout the day. I wasn’t sitting constantly; I like walking around the office for movement. Yet I never needed to remove the shoes because they were painful.
The quality and comfort surprised me. People also noticed the design—it felt different from what they were used to finding.
That experience helped shape what I wanted from the rest of the collection.
What I personally look for in a heel
I’m a sandal girl. Pumps can rub the back of my ankle, so sandals are usually my first choice. Another woman might feel differently.
I also prefer a shoe that feels light on my feet, although weight alone wouldn’t tell me whether it will be comfortable.
Cushioning matters to me. Every Subashini Heels design includes a cushioned insole, and I wear most of my designs before launching them. I also ask friends to try samples and share their feedback.
The comment I hear most often from friends and influencers is that the shoes are very comfortable for high heels. That feedback matters, while recognising that everyone’s feet and preferences are different.
Choose for the day you’re actually having
My office shoes depend on my outfit, mood and schedule. For an important day, I often reach for a standout design. Other days, comfort leads the decision.
Sunset Jewel is a pair I’ve personally worn through a full workday. My gold sculptural sandal is another go-to, although I wouldn’t choose it for standing all day.
For a wedding, I consider both the outfit and how much standing the occasion involves. For dancing, I choose a familiar pair and often lower the height—from 10 cm to 8 cm, for example. That’s my personal preference, rather than a comfort rule for everyone.
Know when to take them off
Loving heels doesn’t mean ignoring pain. If a pair becomes painful, I take it off and rest my feet.
High heels shift weight towards the front of the foot and can contribute to foot and back problems. A cushioned feel doesn’t remove those effects.
My own comfortable workday experience is exactly that: my experience, rather than a promise of pain-free wear for everyone.
Confidence comes first
Try on a favourite outfit, then change the shoes. For me, switching into heels can change the whole feeling of the look.
That’s what I love about them.
Being a mother, having a busy career or entering a new stage of life doesn’t mean giving up the pleasure of dressing for yourself. There is room to explore what makes you feel beautiful, while choosing what works for your body and your day.
Be bold. Feel confident in your own skin. Wear heels because you enjoy them.
You are the main character. Heels are just a supporting character.
Every Step is a Statement.
